Main Street Marketing for Downtowns
Email newsletters, social media and logo design for downtown associations, Main Street programs, BIDs and DDAs
The Hype Hero is a Main Street marketing agency for the organizations that promote a whole downtown. Plenty of agencies market a single shop on Main Street. We market the street itself: the weekly downtown newsletter, the social media that fills your events, and the logo and brand that make your district recognizable. We are a Professional Affiliate of the Connecticut Main Street Center, and we already run community newsletters and social media for towns in New Jersey.

Professional Affiliate of the Connecticut Main Street Center
The Hype Hero is a Professional Affiliate of the Connecticut Main Street Center, part of its trusted network of outside specialists. We already understand how Main Street organizations work: a small staff, a volunteer board and a calendar full of events to promote.
Who markets the downtown? We do.
The Hype Hero runs newsletters, social media and branding for downtowns and Main Street organizations. Most marketing help is sold to individual businesses. We work for the organization that represents all of them, so your district gets one clear voice.

Why do downtowns need their own marketing?
Search for “main street marketing” and almost everything you find is advice for a single store. That leaves out the people responsible for the whole district: the Main Street director, the BID manager and the volunteer board who have to fill the sidewalks for every business at once.
Those organizations are usually small. One or two staff members handle events, grants, merchant relations, design committees and the newsletter, often on nights and weekends. Marketing is the job that slips. We take it off their plate and run it every week, so the downtown stays in front of residents and visitors between events, not just the week before one.
- A downtown newsletter on a set schedule, so residents expect it
- Social media that spotlights member businesses and promotes every event
- A district brand that looks the same on banners, maps, posts and print
- Monthly reporting your board and funders can read in two minutes

What makes Main Street marketing different?
You are marketing a place, not a product. A downtown newsletter has to make someone want to walk Main Street this weekend: the new bakery, the sidewalk sale, the holiday stroll, the restaurant that just reopened. That takes local writing and a steady rhythm, not generic templates.
You also answer to a lot of people. Member businesses want fair coverage, the board wants results it can show, and sponsors and municipal partners want to see their support. We build that in: rotating business spotlights, sponsor placements where you have them, and simple reports on opens, clicks, reach and list growth.
And you need a list that grows. We set up signup forms, QR codes for events and seasonal guides that turn visitors into subscribers, the same approach that grew the Shop Morris County newsletter from 641 to more than 3,000 subscribers.

Main Street marketing questions
What is Main Street marketing?
Main Street marketing is marketing for a whole downtown district rather than one shop. It promotes the place, its businesses and its events through a downtown newsletter, social media, a recognizable district brand and event promotion, so residents and visitors keep coming back to Main Street.
Who does The Hype Hero do downtown marketing for?
Downtown associations, Main Street programs, business improvement districts (BIDs), special improvement districts, downtown development authorities (DDAs), merchant associations and chambers that promote a downtown. We work for the organization, so the marketing speaks for every business on the street.
What goes into a downtown email newsletter?
A typical issue covers upcoming events, new and featured businesses, seasonal promotions, a short local story and a clear reason to come downtown this week. We write it, design it, schedule it and report on opens and clicks, the same way we run the Rockaway Rundown for Rockaway News and the Morris County Weekly.
Can you design a logo or brand for our downtown?
Yes. We design district logos and full brand systems, plus event logos, banners, posters and print pieces that use the same look, so the downtown is recognizable on every street pole, flyer and post.
Do you work with downtowns outside New Jersey?
Yes. Newsletters, social media and branding are all handled remotely, so we work with downtowns and Main Street organizations anywhere in the US. We are also a Professional Affiliate of the Connecticut Main Street Center.
What does it mean that you are a Connecticut Main Street Center Professional Affiliate?
The Hype Hero is part of the Connecticut Main Street Center Professional Affiliate network, the group of outside specialists the Center lists as resources for its member downtowns. Our part of that network is marketing: newsletters, social media and branding.
How much does Main Street marketing cost?
It depends on how often you want to send, how many channels you want covered and whether you need branding work. We talk through your goals on a free call and put the scope in writing before anything starts.
Who owns the email list and social accounts?
Your organization does. The subscriber list, the social accounts and every logo file stay in your name, with full access, even if your staff or volunteers change.
